I just wanted to say that I feel for your family. We are going through something very similar. The immigration laws in this country must be changed. Immigrants are being punished multiple times when it comes to drug use/possession. After paying the consequences with local authorities they should not be deported, IMO. The only crime they have committed is being a victim to the drug. It makes no sense to deport someone who has not committed a violent offense, or an offense that has no victim. I pray that these laws change so that Naz, my Jose and all others trapped by these ridiculous laws are allowed to go home.

my family and I are going through the same thing , they have my son who is a uk citizen but a green card holder with 2 young children for whom he is the custodial parent ,on hold in pearsall for a now deportable drug offence from 12 years ago, his children want thier daddy and need him home but do ICE care about that or the lives that they are destroying??? NO they dont care , he has paid his debt and years of probation money for a terrible mistake he made when 18 and had started a new life and now he is being threatened with deportation after 12 years!!!, he is being punished AGAIN the cost to his family and children who are 6 and 8 will never be repaired , where is the sense in deporting him? these laws need to be changed but i fear it will be too late for many of us who are left holding the pieces of broken families and devasted children.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that!! This is disgusting. It is a blindingly obvious injustice. Yet so many Americans think this country has got it all figured out! We will be praying for him. :( What’s his name?

      • Barbara says:

My sons name is Dean Rodgers,
he is one of the many LPR who thought that his debt to society had been paid and he could start his life anew, he never thought that years later his childrens lifes would be torn apart, I think of the many families that are going through this ordeal and hope that we will soon be reunited with our loved ones. take care and be strong X

My family is going through the same thing. My husband is being deported for a drug possesion charge that happened 6 years ago. We have 2 small children who have no idea what is happening or why their daddy has to go. He too was rehabilitated and paid his debt to society!

    • Hope Mustakim says:

So sorry to hear that!! It’s long time for immigration reform!!! What is the status of your husband? Is he still detained? And where? How long? This is an injustice. :( Is he an LPR as well?

  7. Barbara says:

    hello Hope,
My son is waiting for his travel documents , he is being deported and we are devasted , a 12 year old drug conviction , no excuses he was young and stupid but still no compassion ,he was 17 years old. he completed his probation paid thousands in fees and moved on with his life but it didn’t matter the law is retro active.
He will never be allowed back to US , see his children graduate,be here for birthdays or christmas or soccer games, his life was here, he has more than paid the price for his crime, he is a 31 year old man who was a LPR who had custody of his kids and paid his taxes held a good job, that doesnt matter it meant NOTHING,
Not all deported parents are allowed to take thier familes with them so a remaining mother or father will be forced in to the poverty trap, and statics show how well these children do! .
Its a good job the goverment keeps all the social security contributions paid by the people they are deporting they are going to need every cent they can get to pay for welfare, medicaid and food stamps for the second generation being punished.

    Hi Hope & Naz,
I just came across your website today, when a friend of mine commented on your FB status and I noticed it in my sidebar, and someone else mentioned your website in his comment. I came over to your website and spent some time reading through. I know that your legal battle is over but I will pray now for grace as you come together again in your marriage and that the root of bitterness does not have power over you to destroy more than you have already lost. What an incredible story. I’m so glad for the ending and new beginning for you. May God now continue to use you both in incredible ways!

  9. Patricia says:
